Read on to find out the most common questions we get asked. If you have any more questions not listed below, please get in touch.
What kind of car will I be learning in?
The training vehicle we will be using is a Ford Fiesta Titanium fitted with air conditioning and other special features to make for a very comfortable drive. Voted 5 stars in ‘What Car’ magazine and other Driving publications, this is an excellent car to learn to drive.
How many lessons does it take to learn to drive?
The Driving Standards Agency recommendation for a new learner is 40-45 hours of professional tuition as long as the student is getting plenty of private practice. They advise for every hour spent with an instructor you should spend two hours practising.
However, everyone has varying abilities and some may have access to more practice than others. Younger students generally learn more quickly, but there are no hard and fast rules as we’ve learnt over the years. After the first five hours of tuition, we will generally be able to estimate how many hours you require.
When will I have driving lessons?
We will endeavour to give you lessons when it suits you best within our hours of business. It’s helpful to stick to a set time but understandably there will be times when flexibility is necessary.
Varying lesson times is also a good idea so that you have experience of Night Driving, Rush Hour Traffic and Adverse Weather Conditions.
Where will my driving lessons start and finish?
We can pick you up and drop you off anywhere that is convenient for you within 15 minutes of Inverness city centre. Beyond that is possible but lesson times may need to be shortened accordingly.
How will I know I’m ready to take my driving test?
When you’ve reached a level where you’re driving independently and making only a few minor faults, then you are ready to sit your test. We will also arrange for either Geoff or myself to take you for a mock test about 3 weeks before your actual test so that we can assess your performance under test conditions.
What if I need to cancel my driving lesson?
Cancelling a lesson is no problem if it’s done at least 48 hours beforehand. This allows time to offer the slot to other students who are looking for lessons. Late cancellations are charged at the full price.
